dsw67
Hi, I’ve done a search but have been unable to find a solution to my problem. Some of my software instruments appear to be missing. For example: when I try to use the Smooth Fretless Bass I get a message, "EXS24 instrument "Fretless Electric Bass.exs - audio file "FBWACO1A1X01.aif" not found!" I’ve tried some of the solutions offered here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=86457&p=453341&hilit=instruments+not+found#p453341 Unfortunately they didn’t work for me. Any other solutions would be greatly helpful.
n6smith
Can you confirm you followed the Garageband reindex method I linked to in that thread? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2443?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US If you didn't try that, please do as normally that is the fix for this odd Logic 9 Bug... If you did try it and it didn't work... then try searching the main library (not the user library) for that filename and you should find it under Library/Application Support/Garageband/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Fretless Electric Bass/.... . If it is not there then you will need to reinstall the instruments libraries. If it is there then you will need to reindex using spotlight... and/or try the GB reindex method once more and be sure to follow ALL the steps given... as missing out or changing one step can easily cause it not to work correctly. dsw67
Since I’m not sure I’m doing it correctly, I’ll reproduce the steps... Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand Log in with an administrator account Click the Finder icon in the Dock. From the Go menu, choose Go to Folder. Type directory location: * Since I have Garageband 11', the correct path appears to be: /Library/Audio/Apple Loops Index Drag all "Search Index" files from the Apple Loops Index folder to the Trash. Open GarageBand. Click the Loop Browser button. You may see the "No Apple Loops Found" message. * I didn't see this message Click the Finder icon in the Dock. From the Go menu, choose Go to Folder. Type the directory location: see this article. * This is the same article as before, but I believe the path they want now is /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Garageband Locate the Apple Loops folder and drag it from the Finder into the Loop Browser in GarageBand. * I got a message saying 'Reindexing Loops' * After this I closed Garageband and launched Logic. I selected a software instrument track and went to Library > Electric Bass > Smooth Fretless, and again received the message stating the Fretless Electric Bass couldn't be found. If I missed a step please let me know.
n6smith
It looks right to me... Did you check for if the missing samples files were actually in the place they are supposed to be as per the second part of my last post?
dsw67
There's no Fretless Electric Bass in Garageband as far as I can tell, but one exists in Logic.
n6smith
So you don't see the sample files in Library/Application Support/Garageband/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Fretless Electric Bass/ ? ...and instead you have found them in a different location on your Mac? Or are you saying you can't find them in GB itself?
dsw67
I found 'Smooth Fretless' in Logic. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2zYcxzQACL4eTc0T0phelRQeTA I do not find ' Fretless Electric Bass' in Garageband under Sampler Instruments https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2zYcxzQACL4aHYzV2FITm16YVU Nor do I find ' Fretless Electric Bass' under Garageband > Sampler Files https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2zYcxzQACL4dVRGMkpKT1RoSmc
n6smith
Smooth Electric Bass is a Logic instrument so I would expect to find it where you show in your example. Smooth Electric Bass using the Fretless Electric Bass Samples On my system the Fretless Electric Bass Samples can be found in Library/Application Support/Garageband/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/Fretless Electric Bass/ Yours do not appear to be in that location which I assume, is why your 'Smooth Electric Bass' cannot find them. Why that would be so, is beyond me.. I checked on all the systems I have here, in case they get installed elsewhere on some systems... but on every system I have the Fretless Electric Bass samples are found in that same location. Given that to be the case, I can only suggest you try a re-install of both GB and Logic (in that order...) including the additional Downloads stuff.. and see if that fixes it. Good luck.
