Markisflippinsweet
In a vocal channel strip, where should one normally place a pitch correction insert? I think it would be first, but it seems as though the artifacts of it could be amplified from the compression coming afterwards... I'm not sure... redlogic
When I've used it, it was always in the first slot and I've never had any problems with artifacts.
Markisflippinsweet
Same place for a doubler? I thought about sending my doubler to a stereo bus that all vocal tracks were routed to, but something just seems wrong about that... Same thing about sending all vocal tracks to the same compressor/EQ on a bus. I feel as though it will not be done properly (mainly compression). ski
With this kind of stuff there is no right and wrong. There is only what's appropriate for your particular application. • If you have a reasonably clean vocal track, put it first. • If you have to correctively hipass filter, de-ess, or de-pop the vocal (or similar), put it after that processing. • If you want only the final vocal sound (compressed, EQ'd, whatever) to be pitch-corrected, put it last. tristancalvaire
Attending a Melodyne product pitch at a local college, the guy said that many people compress beforehand so that Melodyne can easily separate notes, though that he personally compressed after instead. David Nahmani
I was going to add my input but ski summed it up perfectly IMO.
