andrewsky95
Hi, I am trying to master my song and hence make it as loud as a commercial houe song. However when i drive the volume harder on say an adaptive limiter or gain plug in it clips - and still is not as loud as a normal song.. so any idea on making it as loud as a normal song? I also read recently about dynamic range, and that the reason the commercial tracks are loud is becasue of the dynamic range? Could someone please explain well what dynamic range is and if this is the way to make the song loud without clipping, how to do it?

Scott Jackson
Perhaps this article by Lagerfeldt will help you: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/468170-loudness-when-producing-mixing-tips.html Also, mastering is best left to pro's but if you don't have the budget and you want to try it yourself, here is a link to another Lagerfeldt post that may help you out. jasong6
Andrew, you seem like a guy like me...looking for a quick and dirty solution. Scott is right, mastering is probably best left to the pros, but I have managed to get satisfying sounding, "loud" songs by mastering with iZotope Ozone. I don't worry about loudness in Logic, I just get the mix right. Then I export the song out as a stereo audio file and master that with Ozone in Wave Editor (although you could do it right inside of Logic if you wanted). iZotope also has a great mastering guide that I have used as my bible. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/support.asp#guides Hope this helps! fastfourier
+1 for Ozone. The best "one stop loudnessizer" out there by far.
andrewsky95
Thanks very much, for some reason i cannot get onto that link, however i will look into it. Is it a free mastering tool? Also why dont you master in logic itself and in wave editor, just interested? (:
