camillo jr
As the title suggests, this will allow you to record audio streams from other apps directly into Logic. Download Soundflower. It's free. Run the instal and then drag Soundflowerbed into your Applications folder. Open Audio MIDI Setup and open the Aggregate Devices window by pressing Shift-Command-A or use the Audio menu. You can create several different kinds of Aggregate devices from the Aggregated devices window (use plus/minus buttons) but a good starter is to check three boxes: your particular audio interface, Built-in Audio and Soundflower (2ch). Set Logic's driver (Audio>Audio Hardware and Drivers) to Soundflower or Aggregate device. In Audio MIDI Settup's main window, set Default Output to Aggregate device or Soundflower (2ch) Open Soundflowerbed. There's no GUI but there's a menu under the flower icon, upper right in the menu bar at the top of your screen. From here under Soundflower(2ch) select Aggregate device. This last step is necessary to be able to hear whatever audio is streaming into a record enabled Logic track. This is a basic setup. If anyone wants to add to this thread to show different setups and what they accomplish, please feel free.

ben parsons
uh... i don't get this part "Open Audio MIDI Setup and open the Aggregate Devices window by pressing Shift-Command-A or use the Audio menu. " can you step-by-step me?
Rounik
Hi Ben Audio midi setup is an application in HD>Applications>Utilities... When you open it - just do what the OP suggested... Hope that helps Rounik
ben parsons
i thought he was referring to something in Logic, not on my computer! i was able to record audio from Live in to Logic, which until now was completely impossible for me, but it's sort of a mess... not sure how to repeat it, actually. i guess i'm just having a hard time getting my interface, and all those ins/outs to work together correctly- i don't know if it's worth the trouble or not yet! thanks guys. camillo jr
Maybe use rewire for that? I don't use Live so I don't know if it syncs via rewire. The soundflower settup is used more for things like recording stuff off the net or apps that don't use rewire.
ben parsons
yeah, Live is set up to re-wire in to Logic, but you can't actually record the audio directly in to Logic (as far as i know) without using soundflower or some other means of routing. thanks Camillo Jr.
camillo jr
If it works like Melodyne Uno, you can set up rewire as an audio input on a bus. Environment: New>Internal>Rewire Then select the rewire object and choose from the parameters box your device (Live - I'm guessing here that it will be available) and your bus. BTW, are you having any success running Soundflower at all? Like just experiment and seeing if you can stream from itunes? If it isn't working it may be that you need something like Pluggo Runtime, I'm not sure.
ben parsons
i have been able to do a few things with it, as i said, i was able to record one part from live into Logic, which was cool, it was just really convoluted and wasn't able to repeat it. i'll try your rewire/bus setup. thanks again!! ben parsons
so: i got the rewire object in the environment, set it to live, bus 1. i play live, while bus 1 is record enabled, but can't hear anything. no signal is traveling to the bus... ben parsons
wait!! i assigned the bus to RW L, and am getting the left channel audio now, but can't record it. do i need to route it somewhere else?
camillo jr
Ok there is a way to record a bus to an audio track... it involves using one of Logic's plugs, I did it a couple of times and then never used it again! Do a search here for recording busses, I can't actually remember which plug it is. But maybe at this point it would be easier to get soundflower working? ben parsons
yeah, i read that thread. looks like a giant pain in the butt to me! i think i'll just keep bouncing back and forth. that works reliably, anyway. thanks again camillo.

I have been at this for days now trying to get this to work and I don't know what i'm doing wrong... I finally think I got this thing set up right, but i got the following error instead from live when i was trying to record an instrument track that i had sent out via channels 3/4 and back into an audio track in 3/4. The error read this: Unknown System Error - Result Code = -12345. Any Ideas, i'm pretty sure i got this jiggz set up correctly...
wip
i don't know if this have been covered before but as an alternative to Soundflowerbed, i use external hardware to record realtime in Logic. if, say i wanna record a bus, i put an I/O plugin on the bus and route the signal to my soundcard inputs. that way i can get the latency down. k
galacticwake7
I have a question, though it is not directly related. I am trying to run logic's synths into live with soundflower, which I have accomplished, but the delima is that I am also trying to run instruments into logic to then put into loops on the fly. It seems as thought there should be a way to do this. My interface is an FP10 and it only gives me the option of either soundflower or the presounus. Any suggestions?? Ghoulst
Thanks for all the help, but I am still having trouble following your directions. Namely this part: "...your particular audio interface, Built-in Audio..." What are you referring to when you say audio interface? Are you referring to my peripheral speakers? Also, the list in Audio Midi Setup includes: built-in Input, Built-in Microphone, and built-in Output. Which one's do I select when you mention Built In Audio, and does it matter which order I select them? Do I select drift? I greatly appreciate this!!! You have no idea. I wouldn't mind putting up a video on how to do this. I noticed a lot of people need help with this, and there are currently no videos on youtube how to do this. Thanks again for the help.
