Threlly
Not strictly Logic, but pertinent: From the Mac-Mini Apple FAQ, "The Audio In port accommodates both digital optical input and analog audio input. Analog audio line input is accepted through a 3.5mm mini phone jack. The sound input jack accepts line-level stereo signals up to 24-bit stereo 44.1-192kHz sampling rate. It also accepts a stereo miniplug-to-RCA cable adapter for connecting stereo equipment to the computer. Optical audio input is SPDIF format and uses a standard toslink cable with a toslink mini-plug adapter, accepting up to 24-bit stereo and 44.1-96kHz sampling rate." musick
I use a a Fostex VC8 (ADAT/TOSLINK AD/DA) as 'soundcard' for my Mac Book this way. Works great!
Threlly
Thats interesting, do you just use the one spdif into the mac? How do you get the Mac to sync up, or does it sync automatically ? How is the whole experience for latency, quality etc ? Cheers, Threlly
musick
Latency is same as internal sound card (which is acceptable), but quality is better... Works for the time (till I can afford a FireFace )
Threlly
I'm going the other way, as I want the firewire port back. Did the sync issue cause any problems ?
musick
I use it mainly as output as I only use VI's in my production, so can't really comment on how it syncs....
Threlly
Thats the answer It either will or it wont !!!
Threlly
Right, I got the Mindprint DI-port. Plugged optical cables to the ip/op. OSX did the rest, synced automatically, changed sound prefs for volume use etc. Perfect. 24bit audio from input to output. Quality of the converters in the DI-Port are exemplary, its like having your muddy glasses cleaned.
musick
It's a good solution before I can afford an RME FF400
