But it sounds like you are trying to record to your internal drive, and you probably don't have the maximum amount of RAM installed. OSX will allways use part of your hard drive for virtual memory, when you open Logic and any plugin more virtual memory is required. then you attempt to record/playback from the same drive. OSX will allways have priority and may delay other disk access for it's own housekeeping.
