Hardware CZ vs the Emulations - A Showdown

Recommended Posts

This is a test I've been meaning to do for a while now. Here's my CZ-1 going up against Arturia's CZV and Plugin Boutique's VirtualCZ.

Done in LOGIC:

LPX 10.6.2, macOS 11.5, Mac mini (Late 2012), 2.3GHz, 16Gb RAM, STEINBERG UR22mkII

Recorded a part on the hardware, bounced audio, copied midi file over to the emulations. Used the same sysex file on both emulations. Volume matched.

They both sound pretty close to the original, except on few occasions.

How did you capture the hardware CZ? Did you go through a mike or "DI"?

It goes to my colorless Mackie mixer, then directly to my audio interface. The modulation is off on the emulations - for whatever reason it's set to extreme on some of the presets, like on the Saxophone for example.
