Bradm227
Listen with headphones if you must, first one is clearer and soft and the second is more harsh and more robotic untitled folder.zip Original (good) after.zip After (bad)

triplets
I don't know what you're hearing, but there's no harshness and anything robotic as far as I can tell. And I checked with headphones and big speakers. Both files sound pretty identical to me.
David Nahmani
Same here, both recordings sound very similar, no difference in timbre from the recording signal chain.
Bradm227
Okay guys that’s strange, I will send another one which is more obvious once I’m back from work tomorrow around 7pm UK time. All I can say is that I most definitely hear the difference especially when I’ve listened to it lots of times and compare
triplets
Listen with headphones if you must You're not using wireless headphones, are you?
fisherking
something in your monitoring? i still think you're hearing what you recorded and a slightly-delayed signal (ok, just a guess), but what we're hearing suggests it's something in your routing (the files sound clean here...) Bradm227
Not wireless headphones I’m using AKG headphones , I hear it whilst recording and also once exported. I first discovered it when doing the typical “car test” and was even more noticeable then
triplets
There's nothing wrong with those audio files.
Bradm227
Maybe they sound fine but my issue is that they sound different, maybe it would better if I sent a 15 second clip of the song? With 1 recording being the new sound followed by an original?
triplets
Just post it here and tell us what you hear different and which plugins you're using on the vocals, if any.
Bradm227
Okay bare with me I will send a clip
Bradm227
Here is a clip of the song, first line is the bad recording (last word is "back" , second line is the original starting with "we can link up". In my opinion the first bit sounds nasally & low quality. youtheone.zip Then
triplets
The first bit sounds like you sang much closer to the mic and you can hear more bass due to the proximity effect.
Bradm227
That’s the thing though, I wasn’t anywhere closer and the gain was the same etc..it just sounds different to me
triplets
If it was recorded on different days, then expect it to sound different. Temperature and humidity can affect the sound of a recording. If you like the performance you did, you can always use Match EQ to get it closer to the other bit. So this is definitely a hardware issue. Nothing to do with Logic. David Nahmani
Ok I do hear the difference and I don't think it's a proximity effect issue nor would I describe the first lines as nasal or harsh or robotic. If anything I would say they're slightly duller while the latter ones are a little airier, a bit more articulate. The difference isn't huge though and I think it could be the position of the mic or how you sing into the mic. Vocals are quite sensitive to mic angle and mic height, because your vocals don't project the same towards your chest vs towards your nose, even if it's less than an inch difference in height you'll hear it. It could even be just the performance, the way you're projecting your voice, that's slightly different. Or a combination of both mic angle/position and performance. But one thing is sure, it has nothing to do with Logic. When recording digital audio, Logic is just taking the zeroes and ones coming from the interface and putting them in an audio file, it's not affecting the sound of the recording in any way shape or form. Bradm227
Okay thanks a lot guys I’m sorry if it seemed I wasted your time .. could I send a screenshot of a zoomed in vocal to ensure nothing is wrong with it?

Bradm227
Sounds stupid but do you think turning the radiators off in my studio could help ?
triplets
Studios are usually cold because of equipment heat. So if you can keep a consistent temperature and noise level in your studio you can get consistent recordings.

Bradm227
Okay thanks a lot! So I just need to make sure that the room stays the same temperature and to keep the exact distance & height from the mic
Bradm227
I’m just a bit gutted cause no matter how many times I record it, it just doesn’t sound the same as before haha
fuzzfilth
especially when I’ve listened to it lots of times I think that's the key right there. Think of a word. Any word. Like - fulcrum. Now say it loud. Fulcrum. Say it loud 50 times. Fulcrum fulcrum fulcrum... By the time you have said it 20 times, it will start to sound odd. By the time you have said it 50 times it will sound very weird and you will not like it. It will begin to lose its meaning. It will even read weird. Fulcrum. When you encouter that word again in weeks or even months, it will still stick out due to your overexposure to it. If you want to keep putting out 2 songs per week, then you need to learn to commit and move on. Look what happened. A handful of experts with double that amount of highly trained ears have a hard time hearing what you're obsessing over. Is the performance and the emotion there ? If no, go for a walk then try again. If yes, move on, the world does not care if you were half an inch to the left or had a peanut butter sandwich between takes. You have lots of ground to cover. David Nahmani
Sounds stupid but do you think turning the radiators off in my studio could help ? No. I'm pretty sure it's performance and/or mic position only.
Bradm227
Hi guys, I took a couple days off to give my ears a rest and went back to recording. I had a couple of songs I’ve been working on and once again the performance and sound isn’t up to standard , I was wondering if this could be latency ? I appreciate all of your help but for me it’s a sticky situation as I know that it doesn’t sound the same, could it be the mic or latency?
triplets
could it be the mic or latency? Latency does not change the quality of a vocal recording, but mic position or singing technique will.
David Nahmani
You may hear latency while monitoring your live performance in real time, if that's what you mean? Then yes that's possible. If that's the case, make sure you disable either software monitoring in Logic Pro (in the audio preferences) or monitoring in your audio interface software, so you don't have double-monitoring, which would make your vocals sound weird while you're monitoring them. However during playback, there's no latency, you hear only the recording.
