Frustrating Step Sequencer problems with third party drum plugins

Hi again everyone

Has anybody been using the SS with third-party drum plugins (e.g. Superior Drummer 3, Roland Cloud 808) without any problems?

I've been having so many problems with the use of templates. I can set up a template, label and colour the rows, etc...and then when I reopen sessions, everything seems to become odd - it's as if all of the rows have just randomly reassigned to different notes.

In addition to that, I'm now having problems where even though the row will show e.g. Floortom 3 (centre), and when I click the row header and click steps in the row, the tom will sound...but when I play back, it triggers a snare!

I'm completely baffled. Is the Step Sequencer just not meant to be used for any other drums than DMD?

Any help gratefully received...

It's a shame that Logic Pro still doesn't have a dedicated drum editor for 3rd party instruments - like Cubase, Studio One, Reaper etc. already have for many years. The step editor and piano roll really aren't very user-friendly for programming drums.

I started to use an instance of EZdrummer 3 just to program the drums with its integrated grid editor and then trigger the drum software library I want to use with it. Kinda works, but it's a compromise at best.

TBH the lack of a drum editor is the main reason why I now mainly use Studio One instead of Logic.

I hear you, but I'm talking about the step sequencer rather than the step editor or piano roll (which I totally agree with you on). Sorry if I'vemisunderstood.

I really don't want to move DAW - I feel like I've made such progress with Logic and there's a really great and helpful large community of users.

The step sequencer seems like a pretty good way of making drum patterns and beats, I just don't want to use DMD :-)

I've also tried using SD3's grid editor but like you say it's a fudge - I want to be able to edit within Logic, not a plugin.

Could you post a project in which this happens?

The step sequencer template and the notes it triggers. I assigned the rows to the MIDI map of Superior Drummer 3, and named the rows accordingly, but it just doesn't seem to matter. The notes rows are assigned to don't match up with the notes they trigger.

I've tried "No Transpose" and "Use Project Key", but it just doesn't seem to make a difference.
