Walnut
Are you using a compressor on every channel for vst instruments? How about a limiter? I'm curious what are your typical chains for say... Piano Drummer track Synths Strings Bass I have been using light compression on pretty much everything including vst instruments and audio. I also many times use the limiter function just in case. Atlas007
It really varies depending of the project and audio material at hand…
oscwilde
As @Atlas007 mentioned, it is variable for each project. Another factor to consider is the inclusion of FX "in" various instrument plug-ins. A number of 3rd-party plugs (and things like Alchemy and several other Logic instruments) have FX built-in...including compression. These FX aren't always leveraged within the plugs, but may provide the facilities needed without needing to insert another effect in the chain. That said, go with what works for the track/overall mix...but there's no universal formula/approach that works for every project. Sometimes "dry as dust" - i.e. zero processing - can make a sound pop out (or sit within) the mix.
