herrmann
Hi I have a external synth that I want to clock to Logic. I have set up the right output port, but my synth won't sync. I also have spying the output of Logic with Midi Monitor and there is no clock message sending by Logic. Have I forgot something in my setup ? Thanks
volovicg
Working fine here.... Remember logic's playhead has to be moving for midi clock to be sent to the receiving device.
herrmann
Yes, Logic is playing, but still nothing...
herrmann
I just tested with Ableton, and it is syncing properly. So I have missed something in Logic, but what ?
blinkofani
NordRack2 is the midi interface? To my knowledge, the Nord Rack 2 doesn't have a midi interface, just midi ports. What you select in the project midi pref page is the interface that will send the clock to external synths, not the device you created in audioMidi setup. herrmann
My interface is a midi express 128. I have selected the port of the interface, where my synth is connected. I have trashed the preferences file, but nothing have changed.
blinkofani
Oh ok, so you renamed the MOTU port you use for the Nord. Well, it should work then. Unless there’s something physically wrong with either the cable or actual port. You went to the usual troubleshootings like tried with another port of the interface and midi cable, made sure the Nord is on slave/external for the clock, just to be sure? I don’t remember if in AudioMidi Utility there’s something to check about MIDI clock to make sure it is not highjacked there or something. Good luck. volovicg
what I would do to trouble shoot this is to se the midi monitor to "act as a destination" and change logic's midi output port to this. Then ensure mid clock is on for that port and visually verify the logic is sending midi clock. ( I believe you will see it) - it will then confirm it is not a logic problem but one in routing and we can debug more intensely in that area - but I would confirm first with absolute certainty Logic is sending it via the method above.
herrmann
As I have tried and is actually working with Ableton, the hardware side is good. I just don't see what other parameter I could have not activated in Logic.
herrmann
Ok, I have tried your workaround : I set "act as a destination" as a new midi port, but I have nothing in midi monitor.
volovicg
Are you sure you have selected the correct destination port... See below.....
herrmann
Yes.
volovicg
can you click the filter drip down in midi monitor and ensure "clock" is checked. Other than that - it all look correct. Feel free to send me that project so I can have a look inside. Just go ahead compress and upload it here.
herrmann
Yes, in the filter, all are checked. Here is the project. Logic Midi Clock.logicx.zip
volovicg
your project works fine here and sends midi clock. Could there be any other application on your mac that is hijacking or re-routing midi signals ? Ahhhh I have an idea, can you please "Bypass" your control surfaces - Logic Pro->control surfaces-> by pass all control surfaces - then test again. If that doesn't work you could reset your preferences (Logic Pro->Preferences -Reset all.)
herrmann
Ok, I have tried your ideas, but still no clock here. Many thanks anyway !
SeleN
so all other events come in ?
David Nahmani
For what it's worth, I tried the project you attached here herrmann and it sends MIDI Clock here too, I can see it in MIDI Monitor.
volovicg
As SeleN suggested - can you route normal note on/ note off information to Midi Monitor to be sure it is operating correctly.
SeleN
so its solved ?

herrmann
Sorry, it is not solved. All other events are showing in midi monitor. Is there anything related to the midi clock in the environment ?

If the environment caused this behaviour, the problem would be reproducible on other users' machines as well, wouldn't it? FWIW, MIDI Monitor shows incoming MIDI Clock for your project on my computer as well...
