Latency Melodyne ARA Vocals

1) Experiencing latency re: Melodyne ARA and recording Vocals

What is best procedure??

2) Is there a utility/ technique to accurately measure latency for a vocal track.

3) Let say, you record a vocal, that is delayed. Is there a timestamp/ time reference ( that you can read)  that will allow you to manually move the vocal audio to correct location

Thanks in advance

When using Melodyne ARA aside from ensuring it is the very first plugin on your track (e.g. no special audio processing like delays, reverb and etc) You should ideally turn off all other plugins on the tracks if you have any. Otherwise Melodynes features aren't going to prove as beneficial as they may.

Ideally should always:

  • Capture audio without any effects process on it (dry signal ONLY)
  • Have all other plugins on the track you're editing turned off (dry signal ONLY)

Optionally I would suggest:

  • Always bounce down the dry signal (all effects plugins on the track turned off)

If you use it in this way, you'll get good result and you can always experiment with or change the plugins on the track afterward.

Otherwise, you're asking for a less than desirable experience and potential introduction of unwanted artifacts. I know this from experience.

Yes, you can use these either or both of these built in utilities to assist you with that task

  • I/O utility

  • Recording Delay offset feature

But first try enabling the low latency mode first to see if that resolves your concern
