Ace of Dubs
If you can take a clean, head-on shot of the logo and display (w/buttons), I can make you a good XP icon ps - Big thanks to everyone contributing to this thread. Keep em coming!

Ace of Dubs
Usually I will just chop and paste in photoshop. But sometimes the images are not hi-res enough, so I take the low-res image, import into illustrator and do some quick vector tracing. Then add in the color and gradients to the shapes to give dimension. I work pretty up close (800% at least) but I make it a point to keep my navigator palette open so I get constant updates on how the icon translates at a small size. Once everything looks good in Illustrator, I paste as a "Smart Object" into Photoshop and tweak to taste. I originally began making these icons because most of the existing ones out there were just screenshots and when reduced it is difficult to see what is what. This is why the first thing I do is take a screenshot of the plugin to figure out its signature elements. One of my fave key commands in OS X is Command+Control+Shift+4. This transforms your mouse into a screen capture utility...just click and drag and the image data gets recorded to your clipboard, so then all you have to do is go into Photoshop or Illustrator and paste. COol! Once I isolate the defining elements of the plugin, be it a knob, meter, logo, etc. I paste them into a 128x128 pixel file and just play around until they look right. And that's really all there is to it. I suppose having 10+ years in the graphics business helps as well. But nuff about my godlike powers over Adobe software, back to the cons! David Nahmani
THOSE ARE AMAZING! You guys really rock. Makes me want to create a whole separate interface for users to download those icons. Hmmm...
mb25976
You guys should link up with the folks over at Logic Pro Files: http://www.logicprofiles.com/ They've got a pretty healthy icon selection, along with a free downloadable app that does all the renaming and installing for you! Ace of Dubs
Makes me want to create a whole separate interface for users to download those icons. Hmmm... This is something i am thinking of as well. Probably the hugest thing would be to assign icons to certain plugins. So when you load say a Moog, it will automatically load the custom icon with the instrument. I know Logic already does this for certain plugins, but am not sure how to do it myself. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
David Nahmani
Good question. I have no idea. That would be very cool if you could do a hack that gives more options as far as Auto assigning an icon! I'm not going to do that at all. I meant I'm interested in working on an icon gallery for this here website for users to quickly find and download the beautiful icons you and others have created. As soon as I can find a mn.
