Logic Pro not registering input

Logic Pro won't record from my Motu M6 or Studio Display Microphone. I have already gone through all the troubleshooting, and I talked to Apple support, who refuses to acknowledge that Logic is having trouble.

Tried:

  1. Turned off and on the Logic Pro rights to the Microphone in Privacy and Security
  2. I stopped Logic Pro
  3. I deleted relevant plist files
  4. Restarted the computer
  5. I reinstalled logic completely
  6. I reset the logic settings to defaults from within Logic Pro
  7. The Motu M6 soundcard records fine in the following applications:
    1. Mainstage
    2. Garageband
    3. Steinberg Cubase 12 Pro
    4. Studio One 6
    5. Performer Lite
    6. Zoom
    7. Slack
    8. Google Meet
    9. Tuple
    10. Pretty much every other video and audio application that I have tried too

Specs:

  • MacBook M2 Max 2023 years model
  • Ventura 13.5 beta (as a desperate attempt to get Logic working as it wasn't working on 13.4)
  • Logic 10.7.8 (I also tried 10.7.7, which I copied from my Intel laptop, where everything was working)

Has anyone had any such troubles with logic before? I am kind of desperate to figure out what the hell is going on here

Did you try with your mac’s integrated input device?

Yes, I did try with the MacBook microphone, and that one works. The M6 works for every other application except Logic Pro, though (screenshot of audio settings below).

Could you post a screen capture of your Logic Audio/Device settings?

By accident, I clicked on the wrong thing when wanting to connect my work VPN: CleanShot2023-06-16at09_33.19@2x.png.b5a0692a7d18dd217c73bcf9413bc493.png

Hmm, how odd; what's the mic mode?

Changed it to Standard from Voice Isolation and BOOM! The microphone works again... FML!

Thanx for sharing your experience and solution!

re Mic Mode:

You can adjust the microphone settings on Mac to filter out background sounds or capture the sounds around you.

Note: Mic Modes are only available on Mac models from 2018 and later.

  1. On your Mac, open an app that supports Mic Modes, such as FaceTime.
  2. Click Control Center  in the menu bar, then click Mic Mode.
  3. Do any of the following (options vary by app):
  • To filter out background sounds, select Voice Isolation.
  • To include the sounds around you, select Wide Spectrum.
  • To revert to the standard mic mode, select Standard.
