I think what is going on…if I were to guess…is that there is no limiting going on and a low threshold? So therefore you are distorting the signal and not having any sort of limiting going on. Limiting is essentially compressing something with a high ratio. Idk if any of this makes sense to you or not. But there ya go. My answer.

Your threshold is all the way down at -20dB - raise it or try a preset. Also, click 'true peak' at the top to set a peak at -1db which is standard for broadcasting etc.

Oh, your input slider is also up full so you’re overloading  there too. I leave the I/o sliders at default, and use the threshold slider to bring the level up to whatever LUFS level is required as shown in the output metering on the right ( for example, -14 LUFS for streaming services).
