why is MIDI scripter dropping events after 20x loops

update:  I used a blank logic project with 180bpm and started noticing changes around bar 300 ( i think it's bar, it's the left number on the beats display) and definately plays alot different after 600.

thought maybe anyone could help me out with this question I've had problems with for a while. original post stackoverflow.com and noticed on mainstage 3.

basically I have a drummer plugin that plays a whole bunch of drum riffs and works perfectly, until about the 20th loop then some of the notes don't sound. they still come up in the log as being sent but you can't hear them. I think it starts to drop more off with each loop.

Im using Logic Pro 10.7.9 on macOS Monterey 12.7.1

I can't give you an exact answer, but I have definitely noticed some odd behavior in terms of beat number and looping.  You probably have to make the script more aware that looping is happening in order to make sure all notes will be sent.  I can't offer any more than that right now

OK kool, i'll look into some of the tutorial scripts that have looping and see what's different

It’s been a while since I explored that but basically I recall having problems trying to play beat number based events while looping.  I don’t remember the details now.  
 

try logging a lot of stuff from scripter along with playback so you possibly find some disconnect with the beat numbers during looping

Yeah the thing is that beats can be pushed or pulled in or out of your measures and what happens is the playback actually starts at position 1 but you can have beats start before, like if you simulate slightly offbeat playing or "humanization". With the extra beat you have to adjust calculations so you can't just modulo values for every loop. There might have been something else like overlapping because the end of the first loop would be beatpos 32.99 but the next loop technically starts at 32.. something like that, i needa have another look soon. Not sure if the version I posted has all the bugs ironed out.

also i've checked logs before and it all worked out.. i think.. i'll check again asap anyways, it's not a small task, a bit of a pain but i like jammin with it and i often play long enough to have it glitch.

oh you mean run a separate scripter for logging. i think i've done that but i'll try again.

yea I don't know for sure, I just remember when I tried to figure out looping and scripter I ran into stuff that I never quite figured out.  I'm sure it's solvable but I'm not sure the answer.  And it had to do with discrepancies about beat numbers while looping, but I can't remember now the details.

sorry I can't be more help, but anyway I'm sure that is where you'll have to look..and probably be a little more intelligent about how you assign beat numbers to each event before sending it...depending on the looping..I don't know...  let us know what you figure out.

Dunno if it's the same on your machine, but after I have let that script play for around 450 bars, I don't only get the missing notes (although even a logging scripter inserted after the scripter running your script still shows the notes are sent), it's also impossible to play that track live (e.g. from my MIDI keyboard). All notes I play sound with a huge latency, if they sound at all. Only stopping and restarting play cures that. Rather looks like a bug in Logic to me!?

EDIT:

2) It seems it's not necessary to stop and restart after this happens, if I continue playing notes the latency goes back to normal after a while

Some kind of buffer inside Logic that runs full?

i usually jam along with guitar so i'm not interacting with it. i think using the random riff function also keeps it from "buffering" or whatever the word is. i'll try adding some automated midi event to reset it.. somehow
