Rockdude9k
it is a CPU hog, but the sound and tweakability will blow you!!, for shure, they could easy charge top notch money for it, cause it is top notch pro quality... crystal from http://www.greenoak.com I downloaded some of the greenoak plug-ins and none of them work. They are all in VST format which i can't get to work in LP 7.2. I'm a relatively experienced logic user but admittedly have never come across VST's before i've always used AU (StormDrum, MachV....) Anybody Help? Check again, there's a UB AU version that you can download (v.2.4.9e I think) at www.greenoak.com/crystal/download.html Just make sure you download the AU version for use in Logic. Peace - xpander p.s. - VST's will not work in Logic unless you use a wrapper like the VST-AU Adapter from Fxpansion. VST is the format for Cubase, Tracktion, Live (does both AU and VST). biff_larken
Oh man, beaten by so many people for so many synths. Although I whole-heartedly recommend U-He's 'Triple Cheese'!
hellleutel
I can't believe sonicbirth has not been mentioned; absolutely great environment to build own AU plugins: http://sonicbirth.sourceforge.net/ It has great potential, much more than the bundled plugs make you think. I even bought that one before the developer decided to make it freeware Of course Reaktor is one or two steps eyond that, so since I got Reaktor I kind of abandoned sonicbirth. I don't know how it works with Logic 8 uli
BabyaSoftwareGroup
http://destroyfx.smartelectronix.com/audiounits.html-DestriyFX plugins, there's lots of them. Out of the available effects:Turntabilist is the one I like the most. I like SonicBirth-it's a bit like Synthmaker, but for the Mac.
BabyaSoftwareGroup
Yellow tools just released a free version of Independence. I've actually almost bought this plug a few months back, and held off because I couldn't find anyone or anywhere that gave demonstrations of its usage. I like to see things in action before I commit. Seems like they must have read my mind because now there's a free version. Pretty impressive when you think about it. Free sampler with a 2GB library. Downside, try downloading those 2gb. I'm on day two now. LOL!! At any rate you can go to http://yellowtools.com but there's a good chance you'll get an error message. I don't think they had a plan for the logistics of releasing 2GB of software for free. I am fond of Yellow Tools-I was amazed to see them release a free version of Independence. They also created the "Vita" softsynth for MAGIX's Music Studio 12 and sounds very authentic.
00420
http://chrisflesner.net/free-au-plugins.html not all links work, but a lot do! Hey! I recognize that site! I haven't updated the links in quite a while. I'll try to do that this weekend
SAM-SoundandMusic
Anyone tried these?: http://www.soundhack.com/ Not willing to risk it myeself...... I didn't try the vst/au pluggins jet but I used the soundhack program itself a lot in my schooldays. It's a really great tool for sound convolution and streching. Not a easy user interface for the beginner but you can create great sounds with it. As a mather of fact, I'm downloading it again, as we speak jeroen
monkeyweasel
The Hornet from NuSofting (google it). Shocked it not been mentioned so far. Well nice. Dunno if available UB tho.
Swar
The Hornet from NuSofting (google it). Shocked it not been mentioned so far. Well nice. Dunno if available UB tho. Have you folks tried Airwindows. There is boat laod of free stuff. once you try these I bet you would go and buy the paid for ones. These are nothing short of revolution. Light and easy and amazing sound. Some of the biggies like Waves and URS would be quite worried. Try it.
sona
Hey Swar, thanks for mentioning the Airwindows. I googled it and got all the free ones. I don't know if some of them don't work in Logic 8 correctly because some of them seemed to sound crappy, but the ClassicChannel is a really lovely plugin. Thanks again. bresnark
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but I only realised yesterday that the Luxonix LFX 1310 AU has FINALLY been released as a UB. This multieffects unit was always one of the very finest free plugins back in the pre-Intel days and I'm delighted to have it back. http://www.luxonix.com/home/en/downloads.html?id=main Robin

Try and buy some of the paid ones like VariMu and Iron Oxide, these are being reviewed as one of the best plugins ever and they are not very expensive. bresnark
It's worth noting that BitterSweet (see post above) has just been updated, too. It's a really nice, free and subtle plug.
fader8
SSL has released a free, and very useful, metering plug-in that simulates oversampling DACs in consumer playback mechanisms. It reports the presence of potential intersampling peaks. Great for mastering work if you're looking to win the "loudness war"! http://www.solid-state-logic.com/music/X-ISM.html

This multieffects unit was always one of the very finest free plugins back in the pre-Intel days and I'm delighted to have it back. Thanks for the heads up on this one! jaybugg
If you haven't already, you must try Automat Its AU, UB and free. It's still a little quirky, but it sounds unbelievable. And they update it regularly. http://www.alphakanal.de/static/images/automat_1.x/Automat_1.0_main_white.png
jaybugg
Also, I have to share Yohng's W1 Limiter. It's a brick-wall limiter, simple, no frills, lightweight..i abuse this thing, and i should be ashamed of myself.
bresnark
Two more brand new freebies for all y'all!! First up, http://www.quikquak.com/Prod_UpStereo.html - which is a stereo widener and tone processor. I literally just downloaded it, so can't pass judgement yet. It's a UB AU. Next up, the IIEQPro from http://www.ddmf.eu/ This one is a 10-band parametric EQ with 12 filter types per band. It looks frankly wonderful (again, just downloaded so haven't tried yet) - and the clincher is that, while it's not FREE per se, the developer is doing a Radiohead and allowing you to pay what you think is fair. The minimum is 60 cents (US) - to cover his Paypal costs. The maximum, as he says, are the keys to a new Ferrari. Sounds reasonable to me! Coming soon, the entirely free North Pole 4-pole resonant filter from Prosoniq - which they're currently porting to a UB AU from VST. Enjoy, muchachos... bresnark
Here's a new freeibe, folks (AU, UB): http://www.voxengo.com/product/overtonegeq/ To quote them: Overtone GEQ is 7-band harmonic (overtone) graphic equalizer with multi-channel support (supporting up to 8 input/output channels, host setup-dependent). Overtone GEQ offers extensive internal channel routing capabilities, and supports mid/side channel processing. Beside equalizing, Overtone GEQ applies harmonic enhancement processing: it uses 7 harmonic enhancement modules, one for each EQ band. This generates a complex harmonic coloration you will probably like a lot. Overtone GEQ was designed to allow audio engineers to apply quick EQ shape adjustments together with adding a bit of harmonic richness to the audio material (mainly mixes and sub-mixes due to a comparably high processing load this EQ puts on a CPU).
