Free plug-ins

The list here is long, so may be they were posted before, but these two are my favourite "free" plugins:

- DrumMica! by Sennheiser. It's a drum library that's extra realistic.

https://en-us.sennheiser.com/drummica

- Sorry but this one must have been free only during a limited period when I got it (now I see it is at $49), It's a reverb called Raum. One of the best FX modules in my opinion. It just enhances/thickens the sound of the track (or the total mix) in a second, even without further tweaking!

They both run on the free Kontakt Player.

@Prophecy99,

Thanks but that one does not seem to be free?

This plug-in is also available in Audio Units format which is the only plug-in type Logic supports natively...but again, not for free (at least not right now and at least not for people in Europe).

J.

EDIT: I messed up it's NOT free, its a 2 week trial version

Fwiw, not exactly a plugin (well, it comes with one basic plugin) but rather a sample library player, but IMO some of the things Spitfire Audio has on offer with their LABS series are quite outstanding. Defenitely not your run of the mill stuff. Some quite inspiring patches among them. They also offer their BBC Orchestra Discover version for free (if you can wait for 2 weeks).

Great post. Ive downloaded everything you recommended but I have one question. What program is a good one to install and use to run the VST plug ins you recommended?

Thanks

Do you mean which DAW? These VSTs are plugins, normally added to a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Most of these plugins will run on most popular DAW's.

Here is a link explaining the various formats of these plugins to fit each DAW:

If you have the full kontakt (the paid one) then Drummica! is still available for free. It was free even for the free kontakt player when I downloaded it, and they say it will continue to be free.

Now, however, it is only available for the full kontakt, i think since May, 2020.

Fwiw, Raum, which I fortunately got for free, is a most excellent reverb-ish ("ish" as it does some mad stuff) plugin, possibly every bit worth the money.

But in case you're short on money right now (as is the case for me, for wellknown reasons I think...), there's always also the excellent Supermassive from Valhalla:

https://valhalladsp.com/shop/reverb/valhalla-supermassive/

And while you're there, make sure to grab the other freebies (Spacemodulator and FreqEcho) as well. Superb stuff.
